This is a substrate made by naturally composting oak leaves. Unlike flake soil, no nutritional additives are added.

Perfect for feeding rhinoceros and flower beetle larvae. Also used for feeding rhinoceros beetle larvae that are losing weight for no apparent reason.

Species I recommend feeding this substrate to:

  • Japanese rhinoceros beetle (Trypoxylus dichotoma)
  • Elephant beetle (Megasoma elephas)
  • Eastern Hercules beetle (Dynastes tityus)
  • Western Hercules beetle (Dynastes grantii)
  • Hercules beetle (Dynastes hercules)
  • Giant flower beetle (Mecynorrhina torquata ugandensis)
  • Any Cetoniinae sp

**Rhinoceros beetle species listed above may require more rotten hardwood from L3 onwards. A 1:1 ratio of oak leaves to rotten hardwood would be ideal but even a ratio of 7:3 works too.

Note: This is an untreated substrate. There may be earthworms and springtails.
